Direct Services

The Kentucky Council of Churches' Commission on Direct Services is called to coordinate responses to disasters occurring in the Commonwealth of Kentucky through the Kentucky Interchurch Disaster Recovery Program.

The Kentucky Interchurch Disaster Recovery Program

Since the April 3, 1974 devastating tornadoes, KIDRP has been in continuous service. It will remain in service to the Commonwealth with a mission to insure the uninterrupted presence of Christian ministry after both natural and technological disasters that bring anguish to all people of Kentucky. The 2010 coordinator is the Rev. Paul Frederick.

Justice Ministries

The Kentucky Council of Churches' Commission on Justice Ministries serves our constituent members as a public policy coordinator; seeking opportunities to educate and empower congregations and citizens to public witness on justice and environmental issues; and advocating with and for the most vulnerable members of society and for public policies which represent the council members' Christian concerns for the common good. Reporting to this Commission are two program units.

The Program Unit on Racism and Peacemaking

For more information on how the Program Unit on Racism and Peacemaking can make a difference in your area with our Building Hospitable Communities Initiative, please contact the KCC office. The co-chairs in 2010 are the Revs. Eric Mount and Tanya Tyler.

The Program Unit on Local Economies and the Environment

The Program Unit is an organizing and advocacy group that works in partnership with rural churches and farm organizations to seek justice and respect for, and the common good of, rural and small town people. The program unit also works for proper stewardship in the use of land and all of creation. The chair in 2010 is Ms. Phyllis Fitzgerald.

Christian Unity

The Kentucky Council of Churches' Commission on Christian Unity is called to the ministry of working intentionally on divisive issues within the Church. We are empowered by God to address doctrinal matters, interfaith dialogue, morals and ethics. The Commission on Christian Unity helps the Christian churches of Kentucky fulfill their call to make visible the unity of Christ's Church.

Local Ecumenism

The Kentucky Council of Churches' Commission on Local Ecumenism is called to challenge the Christian communions of the Commonwealth to accede to God's will for unity through the provision of opportunities for Christians to learn and grow together through shared experiences of worship, spiritual life, and mission.
