THE SPEAKING OF FAITH RADIO PROGRAM
Living Reconciliation: Two Ecumenical Pioneers

Two people with unique perspectives both discovered ecumenism — the movement to reconcile Christian churches — during the Civil Rights era. They'll describe what they've learned about grappling with vexing clashes of difference, and why reconciliation among different Christians still matters in a multi-religious, post-Katrina world.

Joan Brown Campbell was the first ordained woman to be General Secretary of the National Council of Churches (NCC). Thomas Hoyt, Jr. is Bishop of the Fourth District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, presiding over Mississippi and Louisiana; and currently serving a two-year term as the first African-American president of the National Council of Churches.
