This seminar will attempt to answer the question, "Where are we today in the ecumenical movement?" Group interaction will be encouraged. Presenters: The Rev. William Carpe and The Rev. Ron Ketteler Queen Room, Third Floor What does it mean to engage in the dialogue process and to receive the results? How does one begin to understand the process of multilateral and bilateral dialogues among the churches? Where does the reception process touch the parish and the person in the pew? Presenter: The Rev. Lydia Veliko Kings Head Room, Third Floor Finding the Balance: In our search for balance in our lives and communities, we turn to various forms of spiritual journeys. Presenters: Curtis Zunigha; Sister Mary Margaret Funk,OSB and Brother John of Taize Anchor Room, Third Floor Ecumenical/interfaith community ministries continue to spring up across the United States as they have since the mid-1960's. To what extent is this development actually a part of "the one ecumenical movement?" Does it have any claim on the word "ecumenical?" In terms of ecclesiastical unity and social justice, is it essentially reactionary or does it materially advance these causes? Presenter: Rev. Dr. A. David Bos Corn Island Room, Third Floor The Congress of National Black Churches (CNBC) is an ecumenical coalition of eight major, historically African-American denominations founded in 1978, to establish dialogue across denominational lines. The seminar will explore the work of CNBC, its relationship to the mission of the NWCU, and implications for the future on a national and local level. Presenters: Dr. Sullivan Robinson and Dr. Wardell J. Payne Dorset Room, Third Floor This seminar will focus on the reception of the Joint Declaration on Justification and its connection to other ecumenical proposals/ agreements. For example, how will the reception of the declaration affect the relationship between Lutherans and Episcopalians? Will it have any effect on proposals such as COCU (CUIC) which involve traditions other than Lutheran and Catholic? How might future ecumenical discussions be focussed in order to take advantage of agreements already received? Presenters: Rev. Dr. Duane Larsen and Bishop William Boyd Grove Old River Room, Third Floor A number of dialogues and the World Council study on The Nature and Purpose of the Church have begun to propose some ways forward in the discussion of authority in the church, especially in relation to decision making, bonds of communion and accountability as these serve the unity of the Church and its mission in the world. This seminar will survey some of these dialogues and their significance for our ecumenical work. Presenters: Dr. Michael Root and Dr. Ellen Wondra Cochran Room, Third Floor As the ecumenical movement enters its second century, what are the perceptions by Orthodoxy of the movement, its goals and its future? What role does Orthodoxy see for itself in the ecumenical movement in view of its long history of ecumenical involvement. These questions will be addressed in this seminar. Presenter: Bishop Demetrios Being a Christian in a Pluralistic World (Wednesday and Thursday only) Lord Crewe/Oak Rooms, First Floor Christian Practice and the World's Religions.
