January 25, 2002 Calhoun Tornado

On 23 January a severe tornado struck Calhoun, in McLean County, Kentucky. A service center has been set up in the Health Department Building. Preliminary damage reports from our contacts in the Red Cross office in Owensboro indicate that 43 single-family dwellings have been affected, with 2 of them totally destroyed. There were 10 homes with major damage and over 30 with minor damage. Assessments are being made and a full report is expected within a week. At present, there is no indication that the tornado will qualify for federal aid. I will continue to receive information and will update accordingly.
